Jeffry Cantu Sees Twenty50 Now
TheatreSquared
477 West Spring Street, FayettevilleOctober 2, 2024 - November 3, 2024
Jeffry Cantu is a Mexican American artist with a world of life-experience that brought him into the year Twenty24 where the regeneration of unscrupulous politics of power threatens self-awareness, and challenges the conscience of culture. Jeffry’s art is infused with the basis of cultural sustenance; always a reminder of what is most important, the lines, shapes, and color of cornhusk and what that signifies is almost enough to reset any trajectory. TheatreSquared’s presentation of Tony Menses’ Twenty50 directed by Rebecca Rivas has something to say about compromising one’s sense of identity, and whether there are any benefits at all to such a compromise. T2 brings us another salient, thought-provoking and wryly humorous work with Twenty50.

TheatreSquared
477 West Spring Street, FayettevilleAugust 20, 2024 - September 15, 2024
Art Ventures presents Kamaal Manboard's Architectonic Identity series in alignment with TheatreSquared's 19th Season opener, A Raisin in the Sun by Lorraine Hansberry.
Lorraine Hansberry's brilliant play, A Raisin in the Sun is as salient today as sixty-five years ago when it won the 1959 New York Drama Critics' Circle Award for Best Play of the Year. Directed by Dexter J. Singleton, A Raisin in the Sun vividly portrays systemic generational trauma and the resilience required to renew hope. TheatreSquared's prescience to bring this masterpiece to the Northwest Arkansas region could not be more opportune. -

"Domestic Fictions" features the abstract paintings of Carol Hart, who uses layers of paint, fabric, and fiberwork to create a rich and engaging visual experience. Hart's works draw on the power of memory and nostalgia, evoking familiar places from viewers' pasts and creating a forum where they can reflect on their own connections through fictionalized settings.
The exhibition will be a perfect complement to TheatreSquared's upcoming play, "Chicken & Biscuits," which explores the complexities of family relationships and grief. Hart's abstract paintings provide a fitting metaphor for the elusive nature of memory and the familiar experiences that the play probes.

Frame of Mind 2022 - Critical Black Theory @ TheatreSquared
TheatreSquared
477 West Spring Street, FayettevilleJanuary 26 - February 27, 2022
Critical Black Theory is a treatise on the multifaceted and resilient spirit of the Black body and Black humanity, their passionate expression of pain, conflict, and of joy.
There is everything to be said about cultural survival and the nuanced battles required to protect the core of oneself from annihilation. Like the drumbeat, art informs us of individual battles won and lost, telling us that we are still here, still connected, still creating pathways to cultural survival and growth. This exhibition is one such drumbeat in the vast cultural context of Blackness in the diaspora, and its plan to thrive.
