Cooksonia, named in honor of Isabel Cookson and discovered by William Henry lang, is the oldest known plant containing a stem with vascular tissue. Cooksonia had sporangium instead of seeds and was very small, only a few centimeters tall. It inhabited swampy, moist areas and lived off dead plant matter.
