About Rebecca LaTourette
Rebecca LaTourette has a BFA in painting and did post graduate work in costume design at University of Illinois, Urbana Champaign. She is an installation artist whose roots run deep in Arkansas and preservation of its natural beauty is integral to everything she does.
Her recent work involves the repurposing of found objects, collected artifacts and personal family memorabilia into tableaux. The spare but nuanced scenes suggest themes and ideas as she arranges and edits the once insignificant bits and pieces with a goal of teasing out an idea with imagery that elicits a powerful emotional response. Every texture, color, angle and position is carefully considered. She is grateful to have rediscovered this process that provides the pleasure of creating while using up a lifetime of collected ephemera.
