Calm before Chaos

Robert Ford’s In the Grove of Forgetting situates its audience in 1938 Budapest, Hungary, during a period of profound sociopolitical transformation. The play explores the psychological and physical toll of impending crisis, illuminating how individuals grapple with the erosion of their lived realities. In parallel, the visual art exhibition Calm before Chaos features a series of works by Karolyn Farrell with selected pieces by Amy Eichler. These visual narratives serve as a meditation on temporal dislocation—capturing the fragile threshold between the familiar and the forgotten. The exhibition reflects quotidian tranquility that becomes fragmented recollections of memory that will be a historical past that recedes beyond the limits of individual and collective imagination.
