Sunday Salon Artist Talk
You are cordially invited to our Sunday Salon Artist Talk on November 24, 1 p.m. at Art Ventures!
Come meet Leon Nieheus and Jody Travis Thompson as they discuss their work currently on display in the Folklores and Odysseys exhibit at Art Ventures.
Leon Niehues lives and works in the Arkansas Ozarks where he processes materials from his 40 acre woods. As part of the back-to-the-land movement of the 1970s, he found the natural world intriguing and, in 1981, began making functional baskets from his woodlot. He has been a studio artist for the last 38 years. In 2005 he was named an Arkansas Living Treasure by the Arkansas Department of Heritage and Arkansas Arts Council
Jody Travis Thompson graduated from McNeese State University in Lake Charles, Louisiana in 1996 with a BA in Painting and Drawing and earned his MFA at the University of Arkansas in 2019. His most recent exhibitions include his exceptional thesis exhibition Liable to Change at the University of Arkansas School of Art (2019) and Green: Year Two Pop Up Art Exhibition (2019).
Along with works by these two fantastic artists, you’ll also have the opportunity to view pieces from other participating artists in Folklores and Odysseys – Behnaz Sohrabian and LaDawna Whiteside, as well as Modern Folklore – a collaborative Art Ventures K-12 Youth Gallery Initiative exhibit by art students of Fayetteville and Springdale High Schools.
This event is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be served. For more information contact Art Ventures at 479-871-2722 or email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
